Troubleshooting a Network Issue
If you are having problems connecting your Screenspace digital signage player to your WiFi, it could be for a number of different reasons, but not all of them relating to the player itself!
Here's a list of the most common things to check:
- Check the strength of the WiFi signal is adequate. The best way to do this is to connect your phone to the same network and put it in exactly the same location as the player. If you only get one or two bars, it could be that the signal strength is too weak to sustain a connection. You may need to find a way of boosting the strength of your WiFi signal at the player's location.
- Make sure you are using the right password. You can check this by connecting with another device.
- Check that your router is connected to the internet. The best way to check this is to connect with another device and try to load a webpage.
- Restart all of your devices: your router, your digital signage player, and the device that is running your Screenspace app. Conflicts can occasionally occur in any of these devices and the best way to clear them is to restart.
- Make sure your phone is running the latest software. Occasionally a new release of your iOS or Android operating system will adversely affect how it handles WiFi. Usually a fix is posted within a day or so.
- Check that your router is broadcasting a signal at 2.4GHz and not just 5GHz. Many modern dual band routers will broadcast at both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, however, they may occasionally be configured to broadcast at 5GHz only. We recommend using your digital signage players with network running at 2.4GHz.
- Make sure multicast is enabled on your network. Occasionally, routers and network switches can be set to block multicast network traffic. Currently, Screenspace players require multicast network traffic to be enabled in order to install successfully. If you can't see a player in the Screenspace App after a successful setup, multicast might be disabled on your network. You can enable this on the router settings page, sometimes referred to as Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Screenspace will be releasing an alternative installation method shortly.
If WiFi is not available or your WiFi connection is not working properly, you can simply switch to Stand-alone mode and use Screenspace without an internet connection.
